We were in Cuzco some days before we went to Puno. It a dynamic city and is fascinating to watch the daily day life. I love to do this in every place I`m at with a cup of coffee. I think it`s a pleasant way to digest all the impressions and it actually gives me bliss in away:-)

On our trip to Peru was of course one of the goals Machu Picchu. 🙂 For me it’s this one and the Great Wall of China that is truly impressive.
Far up in the mountains the Incas built this “secret” city (aprox 2200meters) and one can just imagine how much work it was to transport all the material up there at the time. (year 1440) We know that they have not used material from the surrounding mountains as the Incas believed you should not cut in and destroy the natural shape of the mountains. It is hardly used any “glue” or mortar between the stones which indicates how technical the Incas most have been. In some places, the buildings fitted with stones measuring only 1.mm in order to make the perfect symmetry.

På vår tur i Peru var selvfølgelig et av målene Macchu Picchu.:-) For meg er det denne og den kinesiske mur som virkelig er imponerende.
Langt oppi fjellene har inkaene bygget denne “hemmlige” byen og man kan jo bare tenke seg til hvor mye arbeid det er som skulle til for å få fraktet alt materialet opp dit på den tiden. (1440 ca) Men vet at de ikke har brukt materiale fra fjellene rundt fordi inkaene mente man ikke skal hugge i området rundt plassen eller fjell generellt. Det er nesten ikke brukt noe “lim” eller mørtel mellom steinene noe som sier noe om hvor tekniske inkaene var. Noen steder er byggningene tilpasset med steiner som bare måler 1.mm for at det skulle bli perfekt symmetri.

As the adventurous girls we like to see ourselves as, we had to use this opportunity to get to the Uros Islands. It is on these islands the famous explorer Thor Heyerdahl learned how to make balsa rafts like Kon-Tiki.
These “islands” consists of liquid balsa which is secured to the seabed with anchors. Approximately 90% of what the Uros people own is made of balsa, their huts, boats, furniture, their tools etc. Each family usually has their own small island. Several of the boats is impressive creative and beautifully crafted of this multiartistic people. The islands are also free of electricity.
The journey inward Lake Titicaca Puno on the border of Peru and Bolivia took place in swamp boats where we could sit on the roof and see the whole area, what a sight! There is a rich animal kingdom here and the place is incredibly peaceful. I would think that especially for people interested in birds this must be considered to be a Mecca.

Som de eventyrlystne jentene vi liker å se på oss selv som, måtte vi benytte annledningen til å komme oss til Uros øyene. Det er på disse øyene den kjente oppdageren Thor Heyerdahl lærte å lage bamlsaflåtene sine som Kon-Tiki blant annet.
Disse “øyene” består av flytende balsa som er festet til havbunnen med anker. Omtrent 90% av det Uros folket eier er laget av bambus, hyttene de bor i, båtene, møblene, flere redskaper osv. Hver familien har som regel sin øy. Flere av båtene er imponerende kreative og flott laget så dette folket er virkelig multikunstnere. På øyene finnes ei elektrisitet.
Reisen innover Lake Titicaca fra Puno på grensen til Peru og Bolivia foregikk i sumpbåter hvor vi kunne sitte på taket og se hele området, utrolig flott! Det er et rikt dyrerike her og stedet er utrolig fredfullt. Jeg vil tro at spesiellt for fugleintresserte må dette tenkes å være et mekka

While we were in Peru we decided to go to Armanti islands and stay with a local family to get the local culture as closely as possible. After we had placed our things we heard some squeezes from the backyard and went out to see what we thought were chickens. The concern for what would be thr evening’s welcome dinner was greatly improved when this sight greeted us.
“Cuy” or guinea pig is considered as the most delectable delicacy in Peru and are often served when you have visitors. And having a guinea pig farm is also surprisingly profitable, we learned that they need very little food, just a little grass. But the production of meat are still high compared with other animals.
While we were there it was also our luck that is was Perus national day, so from the family we stayed with we got to lend some nationaldresses. Pretty nice done! We went to participate in the celebration on the island, loved it!

Mens vi var i Peru bestemmte vi oss for å dra til Armanti øyene og bo hos en lokal familie for å få den lokale kulturen så nærme som mulig. Etter vi hadde fått plassert tingene våres hørte vi pip fra bakgården og gikk ut for å se på det vi trodde var kyllinger. Bekymringen for hva som kom til å være kveldens festmiddag økte betraktelig da dette synet møtte oss.
“Cuy” eller marsvin er regnet som den lekreste delikatesse i Peru og serveres gjerne når man har besøk. Og ha marsvin farm er også overraskende lønnsomt, vi fikk vite at de trenger veldig lite mat, bare litt grønntfor. Men produksjonen av kjøtt blir allikevel høy sammenlignet med andre dyr.
Til våres store glede var det også Perus nasjonaldag når vi var der og vi var så heldige å få låne nasjonaldrakten av vertsfamilien vår. Deretter dro vi for å feire sammen med resten av øya, det var minneverdig stemmning.
